Ice Cream and Blowjobs.....?

I had such a lovely friend-filled day today....

First I met Mindy in the Market. We shared a burrito, and then we went to call on Kiki and Amber. This was my first time hanging out with Kiki and Amber aside from dancing with them at my friend Lawrence's bday party in April while he spun his awesome collection of tunes. He's a tattooed skater boy in his mid-fifties that has been through such a crazy life, been all over the world, met all kinds of characters, some very famous in his incredible life so far. He was supposed to join us today but it was so hot and we met up far from his neighborhood so he decided to skip out. But us four ladies had a lovely time.

We got ice cream from this cute little chocolate and ice cream shop. I got Dutch Chocolate and Mango on a waffle cone. Yummm. We sat in the park under a big shady tree and people-watched and chatted and giggled. There was a small group of hippy boys sitting under a tree nearby playing songs on their guitars and hand drum. I recognized a couple songs by Stone Temple Pilots and Bob Marley. Mindy dared me to go over and ask if we could borrow one of their guitars, but then we thought that they'd probably come over and hang with us and we weren't into that so I didn't go. There was a horny male pigeon chasing a female one trying to mount her close to us the whole time we were there. She was totally not into him but he wouldn't give up. A man in a wheel chair wheeled by on the street and he called over to us. At first I couldn't here what he was saying, then I understood, "Twenty bucks for a blowjob. Come on, girls, one of you? Okay, two hundred bucks...that's a lot of money!" We were shrieking with laughter at this point. "Come on, how about One hundred dollars!" We laughed harder because his offer went down again...darn, I should have taken him up on it when his offer was at two hundred, but he was already wheeling away toward another group of girls, "hey b*#ches, twenty bucks for a blowjob.."  Man......but it was kind of funny because it seemed like he was half-joking and just liked the reaction he gets out of the people he says this to.

When we were done our ice cream and people-watching and had sore tummies from laughing, we walked into the market again and went into a few vintage clothing shops. I bought a cute brown halter dress that has a glittery belt with a big tortoise shell buckle on it. It may sound hideous in theory, but it works in real life. After we left the shop, Kiki and Amber needed to get out of the extremely hot sun and went back to Kiki's apartment, which is awesome by the way! She has the most odd and interesting knic-knacks around the place and two big grey cats. (which I couldn't resist petting even though I have possibly life-threatening allergies to cats)

Mindy and I popped in and out of a bunch more shops and then we parted ways because I had to get to a meeting for our next fashion week show we are doing along with our friends label in the fall. (if we get accepted again that is) The meeting went well, and we are excited to be collaborating on another show with these girls because our last one went so well and we had a blast and got lots of media exposure from it. The video I posted a few posts ago is a version of something we made to show before the runway show.

After the meeting I went to my apartment and quickly tidied before my friend Kristy came over. I met her a couple years ago while she was working in my favourite indie video shop,  which was burned to the ground over the winter. She was away living and teaching in Mexico when the fire happened. No one was hurt, it happened in the middle of the night. A bunch of people's homes and businesses were lost in this fire, many of whom were my friends. That block had been such a part of my life for many many years. It was sad to lose it. But the businesses that were lost have all resurrected in different areas now, yay!
Well, anyways, back to Kristy. She just got back from Mexico a few weeks ago and tonight was our first time seeing each other since she left last Fall. She and I had just started getting together to jam right before she left. She plays the ukulele and I play the guitar and we harmonize on vocals. We mostly cover oldies and country tunes like Patsy Cline and Johnny Cash.

So tonight we planned on jamming but we ended up chatting and catching up and then going online and watching stuff on youtube. We watched video's of one of my favourite Mexican musicians, Natalia Lafourcade. And I showed her a bunch of my dance idols; Rachel Brice, Zoe Jakes, Mardi Love, Sharon Kihara. (youtube these women, believe me) Then I showed her the dvd of my solo performance I did last summer. I danced to Natalia Lafourcade's cover of Tin Tan's "Piel Canela". (That song freakin rules! And I am quite proud of my performance to it, it was a big moment in my life that show. I can't wait to do more of my solo stuff.)
We ate a really delicious mango and then she had to go home, but we're going to get together and jam for sure next week! I am so excited to have someone to play music with, I am so bored of sitting at home practicing alone.

Well, that's the story of my day, with a few trail-offs, haha. Now I think I'll read a bit, then try to sleep.

Bye!

Playing dress-up.....

Well, hello! I haven't kept this page up for a very long time.

I am slowly but surely getting my own music stuff going. I am thinking of beginning my stage performance life (well, in singing that is, cause I've been dancing on stage for years) in old age homes. I figure that would be an audience I wouldn't be too scared to perform in front of. Or wait maybe old people would be the worst people to begin performing for. What if they throw their dentures at me or something if they think I suck? Hmm, we'll see....

Well, that's it for now. Hmm, here are a few pictures of my apartment. I went a little nuts living in our warehouse this past winter and found myself a little tiny bachelorette. It's where I go to have Me time. To read, play my guitar, attempt to teach myself how to paint, do yoga, record my songs, and have bubble baths!

I also was pleasantly surprised to have become friends with a musician I have been a fan of for years.  She and I are like long lost soul sisters. We have too much fun together. For example last Sunday night we went for dinner then walked to the city square, where we came across an empty tent that I guess was used for some sort of show or vending during the day. We took over the tent and began to perform our favorite songs for an imaginary audience. Real people walked by also, and looked at us like we were crazy. A bunch of cops stopped to talk to us, and said what we were doing was fine, as long as we didn't decide to take our clothes off or anything. But then one officer said that he actually wouldn't mind if we did. Wow, what a perverted cop!

Here are some pics I finally downloaded off my camera...

This is Oreo when she decided that the coffin that our co-op student made us in shop class was her new bed. She kicked the doll out shortly after this photo was taken.

Stu holding Oreo in front of the store.

This is the picture that I saw on the adoption site that made me see that this was the doggie for me! She was around 9 weeks or something here.

I may or may not stop posting pictures of Oreo at some point....... I am quite proud of my little one.
